the good and the bad

Good (in no particular order):

1. The first produce from my and Kathryn's (is that grammatically correct???) backyard garden. Why yes, yes I did plant a garden. (Thanks to my dad for his excellent tilling skills and to Matt's dad for rigging up the tomatoes and peppers and mostly to God for giving us some veggies so I don't feel like a total failure. Amen.)

2. By the look of the flowering squash vines, we are going to have TONS of squash. Kathryn and I have plans to get together and make Matt's sister's Squash Muffins. Yep, I'm planning ahead.(Yes, I'll post the recipe and YOU will be thanking me and Kim and God. Amen.)
3. I joined a gym that's about two minutes from my house. I've worked out twice this week, and my mood and energy show it. I feel so much better when I'm exercising, and it's been about... um... two years since I have.
4. My friend Aimee and her daughter, Hannah, visited today. Hannah is 14 years old, and gave me my first Silly Bandz... a butterfly. So sweet. And also, on Facebook, Hannah changed her last name to Jonas (as in, married to one of the Jonas brothers). I thought that was HILARIOUS and it has brought me much joy.
5. I have concrete lunch plans with my Divine Friend, M, on Monday. I'm giddy.
6. The adorable twin baby girls that Kathryn nannies for are coming over (along with their sweet momma and Kathryn) tomorrow for a playdate. Jonah has a playdate!!! That is so... normal. (AND awesome!)
7. This is the funniest video I've seen in a very long time. You must watch it. North Carolina representin'. Hey Lucy, you know this guy?

Bad (in no particular order):
1. True, we accidentally broke the end of the zucchini off when we picked it. We're new at this. I ate the tomato (GLORIOUS), Kathryn took the zucchini home. (And also, I have no idea how to spell zucchini ... Ohhhh, THAT's how you spell it. Who knew?)
2. Jonah has stopped eating ANYTHING by mouth. Lips clamped, turns head, completely refuses. Nothing. Not even one bite. He dwindled off over the last week or so, and the last two days has eaten nothing. I bet he won't even eat my Squash Muffins (poor thing... has NO idea what he's missing).
3. My camera won't work. Won't turn on. Nothing. I thought the battery was dead but it wouldn't charge, so I'm hoping I just need to order a new battery. SO sad. I feel lost without my camera. (And also, further proof that I should have bought a Canon.)
4. I miss the Women Only gym I was a member of before I got pregnant with Jonah. I know the sweet owner, Helen. The classes (variety and instructors) are awesome! And it's WOMEN ONLY. But alas, it's 20 minutes away, and I just can't spend 40 minutes of my "someone else is watching Jonah" time driving. I especially missed my girly gym when I had to listen to a man making some very loud and hmm... how do I say this... inappropriate(?) grunting noises while he lifted weights. I just turned my Pandora up and tried to drown it out. It was just me and these two middle age big beefy guys in there, and I wanted my GIRLS back. Sigh. (Still happy to be part of a gym and LOVING the location.)
5. I am RIDICULOUSLY sore after doing 15 minutes on the Elliptical Machine (on level two, ahem) and a few of the weight machines. Can we say PATHETIC?
6. I have to wear a bathing suit in less than three weeks. Does anyone else want to smack Heidi Klum? Oh, just me? Alrighty then.
7. Blogger is being stupid and the spacing on this post keeps messing up. I have no patience to fix if for the third time, so we all have to deal with it. Sorry.
And on that note, I will now finish this post. The End.

It sounds like your having a terrific day Patrice. I can hear the smile in your voice. Be careful with those zuchinnes they'll get away from you.....don't miss finding one or you'll have zuchinne coming out of your ears and the sad thing is they're really hard to share...just say zuchinne and the neighbours run away LOL ( I can't spell zucks either )
I think this is one of those days you're happy Jonah has a feeding button. No stress (((hugs)))

Good for you on the garden. It's so hard to get back on the work-out wagon. I just started last week too and it's been like 4 years for me! Sad! It's funny though as hard as it is you feel good when you do it. that should be reason enough but I managed to skip out altogether for the last several years.

Hi There!

I've been reading for, oh, a year and a half now and am just now commenting. *red faced*

I love reading what you write and am so happy that you are all doing so well. :)

Happy gardening!

Yay to the garden!

You have my curiosity up about the 'him' in the video, especially since I couldn't open it!!! I'll try again in the morning; maybe Safari won't be so cranky.

Congratulations on the gym. I haven't set foot inside one in, um, 13 years??? It hasn't been that long since I set foot in a bakery, though....

Hey now, at least you can be all like "of course I don't want to wear a bathing suit. i've had two kids. Hello pregnancy!" I wish I could attribute my less than stellar bod to having produced something as cute as your sons! but alas, mine is just too many brownies and not enough gym time!

I don't want to smack Heidi, but I do want to force feed her chocolate cake. It is not normal to look THAT good after four kids.

Humorous as usual Patrice! I started going to the gym again about 4 months ago and I couldn't agree more with your assessment- grunting men included!

May I ask what kind of camera you have? I'm looking into a new one and would like to avoid the lemons, since I am a true amateur at this. Thanks!

Praying for Jonah and his eating.

YAY for gardening! The veggies look good! YAY for working out, too! I started going to a fitness boot camp a couple of weeks ago and it's great (although "sore" is an understatement!)

BOO for Jonah not eating. Maybe he's teething? Will pray specifically that he'll get back on the wagon!

Am heading to bed but hope you have a wonderful Friday, and that Jonah will be a good eater!

Love,
Laura

"Kathryn's and my" I think. I think you're always supposed to put "yourself" second in the sentence.. sorry, you asked!

This is totally random, but as a busy Mom I thought you would appreciate a great, but rather quick workout. If your gym offers "Gravity" take the class! It will work your whole body in about 30 minutes. I started it this week and feel great...and love that I am not at the gym that long. : )

Just a friendly mom-to-mom tip...

I love reading your blog, Patrice. You and I have a very similar sense of humor..and I just can't get enough Jonah cuteness! That news clip is classic. :)

I can't wait to hear more about your thoughts/progress with adoption. It is such a wonderful gift to give a child...I wish more people would think that way, and I hope that our family can have the courage/strength to adopt a child one day! Jonah will be an awesome big/little brother!!

Patrice, you are HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!

I love your sense of humor..hopefully the bad things will work their ways out & the good will keep improving.

Maybe I need to hang around Jonah and learn how to keep my mouth shut instead of eating (especially sweets & ice cream). He will turn around, one day you will not be able to stop him eating...Thank God for the G-tube..

Have agreat weekend..be sure to take Deac out in the sun.

Love you

When I saw your post on my blogger dashboard I honestly thought it had something to do with Jonah playing baseball with Fruits and Veggies! Don't tell me that zucchini doesn't look like a bat and the tomato its' ball.

Focus on the good, I know it's hard, but you have a lot of good and a gorgeous son <3

As for the elliptical... we have one in our living room (my boyfriends father + late night infomercials) and it kicks my butt every time and I'm 20 so trust me we're all on the same page and we can smack heidi too.

I have LOTS of zucchini recipes if you need them. Just ask! They are delish! Even a CAKE recipe! YUP! Good too! So sorry he is not eating. He sure likes to control things doesn't he? I say dangle good ole zuchinni's in front of him and he will cave.... eventually! Praying for you. Glad you are smiling. Curses to the lady in the pharmacy! Jennifer in Southeast, NC

Your picture makes me think of Veggie Tales. The zuchini looks kind of like a cucumber, so I thought of Bob & Larry.
