idea one

I don't want to be one of those people who talks a big game but doesn't follow through. So as I think of (and institute, to the best of my ability) practical ways to be Jesus to those around me, even on limited time and resources, I'd like to share them here, if I can. Please know that it is NOT AT ALL to toot my own horn or say "Look at me. I'm super holy." Because, trust me, that is completely absurd and laughable. I just desire concrete, practical ways to serve more and better and love getting ideas. Maybe you do too?

Anyway...

Practical Ways to be Jesus: IDEA ONE

Sponsor a child through Compassion. It only takes $38 a month and will change the life of a child in a poverty stricken area. I'd be willing to bet it might change your life even more. Please see Compassion.com if you are interested.

This is Mateo. He is almost nine years old and lives in Bolivia. He shares Gabe's birthday and the same name (Matthew was Gabe's middle name), and we are happy to consider him part of our family. I'm waiting for our introduction packet in the mail and can't wait to write him our first letter.

Hope you all have a blessed, love-and-compassion-for-others filled week.

That's a great thing to do! We sponsor Joe in Kenya through world vision. My 11 yo chose him because they're the same age and we look forward to getting letters from him. Our dream would be to meet him and his family one day. We've also "purchased" things through their catalog like milk for babies, soccer balls, orphan care. It's a great way to do something tangible for Jesus.

Hi. I read your blog but rarely comment..your post made me think you might be interested in my husband's ministry. www.jesusforchange.com It is a non-profit organization that promotes evangilizing and helping God's people around the globe. Feel free to check it out if you are interested. We are working on collecting donations to buy bibles for people in Kenya and Uganda. They do not have access to God's word like we do here.

btw-Jonah is adorable! Love watching him grow :)

We sponsor Keethsharwan from Sri Lanka from World Vision. He is 1 month older than my son, and I thought it was important not only to help a child in need, but also begin to make my 4 year old about how other kids in the world aren't nearly as lucky as he is. We just got our first letter from him (his handprint) and I can't wait to frame it.

This is a great idea. Have you even heard of the author Jason F Wright? I have read almost all of his, I think, and I just finished one named Seventeen Second Miracle. They are all fiction novels but all are backed with great ideas and encouraging words on how to help others. They are also great quick and easy reads but mean a lot. Check out this book and The Christmas Jars books (there are 2) and you will get great ideas on how to show God's Love thru you to others!

I actually signed up for our Compassion child last week. I can't wait to get my packet! I felt super convicted to do SOMETHING after reading radical. I hoping to continue to make changes!

I adore watching Jonah grow. I think he's adorable.

I stumbled upon your blog because I have Google Alerts set to pick on posts on Compassion. One of our 7 CI kids is from Bolivia, too! What a joy these children are! Did you know, if you sponsored online and set up an account, you can write to him right away? Go to your account and click Contact Your Child on the left hand side. Your email will be sent to the country's field office, be translated and then delivered! My blog shares lots of ideas for the crucial letter-writing aspect of this ministry. God bless you for sponsoring and spreading the word! Your children are just beautiful!
