this and that

This is what I found last Wednesday when my mom called me upstairs. Jonah was SO proud of himself for sitting up on his own.

We made it to church today, and I took Jonah to the nursery again. I stayed with him, but he did great. I take him to the six to twelve month nursery thinking the pace is probably better for him. :) I loved letting him spend time with other kids close to his age. He loved it!

AND he wore shoes for the first time. Well, I did put shoes on him that day it snowed, but they weren't anywhere near his size, and they kept falling off. These were actually a size too big and stayed on his feet. They were Pedipeds, which had been recommended to me by several EB moms. His toes don't look any worse. We'll have to check his ankles and heels tomorrow. I'm thinking they'll be okay though. He has a lot of padding there. We'll see.

Jonah crawled today! (Or so Matt says.) Of course he waited until I wasn't here to show his skills. Matt said he did a sequence of hand, hand, knee, knee a couple different times. I'm hoping to get it on video tomorrow. He's going to be mobile before long. Katie said, "I got to be honest, Patrice. Mobility is the devil." I believe her. Jonah, not even crawling, somehow gets to the DVD player and satellite thingy. I can't even imagine what's it's going to be like when he is actually on the move.

I gave Jonah some real food through his tube today. It was some crazy concoction of chicken and gravy baby food, avocado, Yo Baby yogurt, Coconut Milk, Apple juice, and Duocal. Sounds tasty, huh? He handled it fine, and it gave him about 200 calories in just four ounces. High calorie, Low volume. Good stuff. He only threw up a couple ounces today, and that was with the night time bottle, not using the tube. And even without counting those two ounces, he got 960 calories today. I was pretty pumped about that.

Anyway, sorry this isn't very exciting. Life's just kind of cruising along these days. They're all about the same, give or take a little vomit. He's amazing, as always. Today was a good day.

Praise the Lord for average, everyday days! Yeah for Jonah sitting up all by himself and starting to crawl! He is such a sweetie, and I appreciate being able to "watch him" grow up. You are doing a great job with him Patrice. God's richest blessings on your family!

The last sentence said it all. Grinning from ear to ear over here!

Actually, it is exciting :)

Great news about the real food! For both of our kids, I used a little manual food grinder on whatever we were eating. We weren't dealing with feeding tubes, but if we had been, I'd be doing what you're doing.

It sounds like Mr. J is ready to MOVE. We won't expect a blog post very often when he really gets going :)

Yay!!!! So glad that things are getting back to "normal" for you guys! Even bigger whoop whoop for all of the calories that Jonah is taking in! We are still praying for you guys & still check the blog several times a day! Hugs!

Each day is such a blessing with children. I love coming over and checking up on your precious family. My friend Ashley follows you faithfully and loves her visits. I'm not sure she leaves comments (she's not a blogger), but I know she loves you guys because she talks about you a lot.

Take care.

Not exciting? Um.... you just listed a whole bunch of really exciting things that left me cheering for Jonah!

If this is just an average day, then lets hope for way more of them in the future. You are right though, mobility is bittersweet.

Exciting--yes, those pictures of Jonah smiling & clapping was thrilling. Yeah Jonah for taking in all those calories, for going to church, for crawling & for being a kid doing normal stuff...way to go.

This post brightened my day just what I need to getting going in the early morning.

Blessing to all :-) love & prayers

I know you probably know this but have they ever told you to add carnation instant breakfast mix to baby food. the powder has a ton of calories. it does thicken it up a little. i do not know how it would do in a tube feed. i use to take a big jar of food and add butter, oil, carnation instant breakfast and something else.
we went to chapel hill last week and loved it. we went for pulmo, they were so nice and so friendly.

Jonah, we are SO proud of you! Keep up the good work - and don't hide your crawling talent from Mommy for too long, because we all want to see it too!! :)

Hope you have a fun, low-gusher week!

Love from TX!

Look at him sitting up! He is adorable as always. :) Wow on the crawling ... I can't wait to see video.

As for the blenderized tube feedings, I think you will come to love them. We are currently working on upping ours, so that we can even be done with formula completely instead of doing it overnight! Then we would just run Pedialyte overnight (due to a metabolic disorder she can't go without hydration more than 3 hours). Seriously, I absolutely LOVE feeding her real food.

He is looking like Mr. Big Stuff! I must say he is the cutest thing around your zip code! He will be a challenge when he gets mobile but at the same time he will learn so much and other things will get easier. It is all up and down at the same time (I keep saying this. So sorry!). Glad to hear you are experimenting with the blended diet thingy! You amaze me in so many ways! Jennifer of Southeast, NC
