random thoughts

I don't really have much to blog about so this will be short. We finally got out today and went to eat lunch with Matt, but other than that (and a doctor's appointment on Monday), we've been in the house all week. The wind yesterday was insane. Tropical Storm force, that is. Matt thinks somebody came over and lowered our basketball goal. I'm pretty sure it was the wind... or else I'm just really unobservant... which, now that I think about it, is quite possible.

Jonah's little boy parts are doing better although he's still got some raw areas and I had to drain another blister there today. He now has a growing blister on his little butt cheek. It's always like that - one place starts getting better and then another one starts. He's a pretty good healer though and so far hasn't scarred a bit (except for his biopsy spot), so we are blessed. I NEVER thought the skin on his knees would be normal. They were so raw and so deep, I was sure he would have scarring there.

I trimmed Jonah's bangs today, with one hand, while he slept in the crook of my opposite elbow. It was very spur of the moment, and I may or may not have done it with the suture scissors that are in my "Blister Basket" that sits on the table by the rocking chair. It was a little impulsive, but that's just how I roll. I tweeted a picture of it (right sidebar), and you can see it here. He wasn't happy. He had just woken up.

I keep having all these random thoughts and have been considering putting a Random Thought of the Day at the bottom of my posts. Do you ever think to yourself, "I wonder if anyone has ever thought that exact same thing before?" Well, I intend to find out.

I've had a ton of them in the last three days but of course can't remember many of them now. All I know is that today in Target, I was thinking things like, "Man, it is so uncomfortable picking out a romantic greeting card when you are surrounded by all the strangers who are also picking theirs out. I can't take this pressure." And, "why is the guy's deodorant on a completely different aisle than the girl's deodorant? Can't we all just get along?" And "Where the Bleep is the contact solution?" You know, that sort of thing.

So...

Random Thought of the Day: Why do people say you should save the best for last when it comes to eating the foods on your plate? I mean, I get that you want to get your green peas out of the way, but if you save your favorite thing for last, you're either too full and don't want it or you do eat it, stuff yourself, and you're completely uncomfortable. A whole lot of anticipation and buildup for nothin'. I live on the edge and take random bites of everything. Matt eats one thing at a time. Oh, you don't care? My bad.

I can never remember where the contact solution is at my Target either and I usually circle around the aisles near the pharmacy a few times.

For some reason, they put it by the "adult" products.

WOW I eat one thing at a time too. So funny, didn't think anyone else did that. My husband can't believe it. I tell him I don't like to mix the tastes hah
When I was little my granny use to give me paper plates with the sections separated, so my food would't touch each other. hah
I'm not quite that fussy now that I'm grown. Go Matt !

I eat one thing at a time too! But i usually start with the main course and then move on to the sides. Favorite side first!

You are too funny! I enjoy your blog! I think/pray for your favorite little boy everyday. By the way, I am pretty sure I eat whatever I am craving first. Why save it for last? I can always get seconds!

Had to laugh about the "best for last."
I was at a conference and the food was set at each place, INCLUDING the dessert, set temptingly just above the main meal plate in front of me. Oh mercy! I was not going to risk being too full for the dessert, so in front of my co-workers I moved the plates around and ate the cake first. :)
I have not been invited back to the conference, but I have sweet memories of that cake and have no regrets.
I actually think that the DairyQueen uses a slogan something like" life is short, eat dessert first" That is my motto.
Maybe Jonah has a sweet tooth and he would like some dessert too, I guess you'll soon find out at this big birthday coming up when there is sure to be cake and ice-cream.

Isn't food-mixiing a crime? I mean, if I wanted to eat a corn, steak, mashed potato casserole, I would have made it that way, right? Oh man Patrice, wait til Jonah gets older, and you make something for dinner that you absolutely LOVE,(and of course Matt likes it, too) and you're all ready to dig in, and you don't heap up your plate so you don't look like a hog, but you're secretly hoping that no one wants seconds so you can have more, and Jonah pipes up--"Mommy, can I have more?" You'll be making enough food to feed an army, just so you know that you can have as much as you want!!

Can I secretly tell you that hubby and I can't wait every night for our "after the kids are in bed second dinner!" It's almost better than the first dinner, and much quieter!!!

So excited for Jonah's auction coming up!!!

I also take random bites of everything. Sometimes I even mix them together just for the fun of it! My son, however, does not like his different foods to even touch, let alone eat them in a random pattern! Different strokes :)

WOW! I think it is so incredible that you can still, after everything you have gone through, say you are blessed. A great reminder for me to be thankful for my circumstances. Thanks for that great reminder tonight. Your attitude really amazes me! Be encouraged and know that you are a testimony to so many people. Even us "lurkers"! : )

I'm a one-thing-at-a-timer too - but I don't have any particular order. Really, I should just skip right to dessert, but I know I should at least pretend the rest of the meal is important! :)

Glad Jonah's healing in the boy places - will pray for healing in the others! Rest well tonight!

Love from snowy(!) TX!

Love the random thoughts! Keep them coming. I also adore the haircut. Very good impulse! and a good use of the scissors! Thanks for sharing about your day. I know it was not "exciting" but it was still worth knowing how things stand at this point! Jennifer in Southeast NC

I often ponder the same thing. Only I think what if I am missing the true taste of the 'best thing' because I have eaten the 'worst' first. Also brushing your teeth before breakfast...does it make our food taste better because our mouth is fresh...is that why we enjoying eating out for breakfast, because we brush our teeth and can really taste the food. I don't know.. But I am with you when it comes to the best thing last business. I am glad you got out today! :0)

Your random thought made me laugh, that is so my hubby and I, he eats every thing on his plate one thing at a time saving the best for last, whereas I love to eat bits of each thing as I go, some idiosyncrasies are so funny!

Every meal is random for me. Sometimes (like tonight) I ate one food at a time, other nights I change it around and sometimes I mix stuff together (like corn and baked potatoes). I do prefer to eat the salads first (because they are cold) and end the meal with something warm, although ice cream for dessert is always a winner!! Are you open for us sharing our random thoughts back to you?

Can I just tell you that I'm so glad that I found your blog (Have no idea how I did) ......for many reasons, one being that we can now pray for Jonah too (my 10 year old son asks for Jonah updates) and we have been educated about EB. I had NEVER heard about it before finding you. Jonah is pretty-much a household name now in our home. AND your writing cracks me up!

Please keep the random thoughts coming. I take random bites of food. I think it's boring to eat one thing at a time. Food is made to be mixed. Some of my friends don't even want their food to touch!

You are too funny!! Sometimes when I read your posts I feel like I could be sitting there talking to you! My brother is one who does not like his food to touch. When he was little he would turn his plate to each new food to eat it! thanksgiving used to freak him out, cause most of us just piled everything on our plates, and put gravy on it all and then just dug in, mixing stuff together!!! Oh the horror of it all!!!

I tend to think that "best for last" saying refers more to, say, dessert. Cuz you KNOW you gotta eat your peas before you get your CHEESECAKE!! :)

I love that you have the same random thoughts as I do. Always wondered if I was "special" b/c of that. Ha! You have me laughing! Thanks!

My husband is someone who eats one thing at a time. He puts WAY too much thought into it. I've seen him sit there silently for a few minutes while he contemplates which item to eat next.

I will admit that I have gone to his way of eating when I have a burger and fries. Fries must be eaten first.

Thank you for being real.....up times and down times. You are such a joy to read in a world so full up superficiality.

For the record, I eat mine randomly.

Not only do I love seeing how sweet Jonah is doing, but I love your writing! You are so funny! And yes- I totally think the same thing while looking at valentine's day cards!!!

Glad Jonah is doing better...will be praying for the spot on his bum :)

I'm like you, I eat a little bit of everything on the plate. A bite of this, then a bite of that. I never understood people that ate all of one thing before moving on...

:) Sometimes I eat the good stuff first! Then fill in with the rest.

The picture is priceless!

One day in the not to far future you will use the saving the best for last. "Jonah sweetheart, if you eat these carrots/squash,cabbage (ugh) or whatever vegetables you have, then you can have this yummy-------." Bribery goes a long way when trying to get a 3-4 year old to eat. (Ha) For myself, sometimes I like to mix it all together. My dgt loves mashed potatoes & spaghetti. My son eats one thing at a time--

Love the haircut & so EXCITED to hear about Jonah's weight & height..God is so GOOD!!

I'm glad to know others have the same random thoughts I do--makes me feel 'not so crazy' love ya

Oh, man you're funny. I eat like you do and I don't think I could be married to someone who ate all of one thing at a time before moving on to the next entire portion of whatever. Weird. But I guess I'd have to deal if that's how they rolled. :) God bless!

Jonah is becoming such a man baby with his "big boy hair"!!! Too cute! Where did you get that cute sock monkey outfit, I love it!!! Happy Valentine's Day!

LeslieTummel said...

I eat little bites of everything, but I always eat more bites of my favorite thing so I can enjoy it most. My husband only eats one thing at a time. Weird.

My husband eats one thing at a time and it drives me nuts. I like to enjoy everything together, like you said :o) Little bit of this, little bit of that! He even saves his french fries for last! Who does that?!

Rebecca said...

I say eat dessert first in case Jesus returns before you can get to it ;) (That philosophy might explain my marginal success with Weight Watchers).

My husband said he was done saving the best thing on his plate 'til last after watching the dog eat her favorite thing first - he decided that she had the right idea.

I'm with Matt - one thing at a time. Whether it's best first or last, it's always one at a time.

i eat one thing at a time. and my son (who is 6) will order a subway sub with turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber. then when we get home, he will open it and eat everything separately - leaving only the turkey and the bread. he eats that last!

I eat random bites of things but I do save my favorite thing for last. I just try not to get full first. But the lingering taste of whatever I love most is so worth it to me. Silly, the amount of thought I put into it.
