cute photos and valentine's

Photos from the last few days.

Thursday

Today

Three generations. I often think Jonah looks very much like Matt's dad.

Today was Jonah's first day ever wearing jeans. They have an elastic waist band so I didn't have to worry about zippers or buttons he would catch his hands on. I got them at Crazy 8, which is also where his monkey shirt is from. Aunt Kim got him his monkey shirt for Christmas and then I ordered every other boys' lap shoulder shirt they have the other day. They are getting really hard to find in the big sizes, but they work best for him because the necks are wide and stretch out and don't rub his forehead when we're putting them on or taking them off. These are 12-18 months and just barely fit him. I'm sad that he's outgrowing these. They are just perfect.

Since Granny and Grandaddy were here we let Jonah open his Valentines Day gifts from them and Aunt Kim and Uncle Andrew tonight.

Matt showed me only one page of this I Spy book, and it had a very freaky looking clown on it. So this one will have to be a Daddy and Jonah book because I do NOT. DO. CLOWNS. Jonah will totally dig it though.

Matt's parents kept Jonah last night, and we went out for Valentines. My mom and Shaina kept him earlier in the week and we went to the Wake vs. Boston College game. Twice in one week! WOOT WOOT! Last night we went to dinner at Bone Fish Grill (hooray for gift cards!), killed some time at Barnes and Noble, and then went bowling. We used to bowl in a league when we lived in Greenville and Matt, at least, was decent. I have always sucked. Last night we were both terrible. Bowling is not like riding a bike, apparently. We bowled three games, and my high was a 109. I won't tell you my other two because it was just embarrassing (as if 109 isn't bad enough). We had such a good time both nights though. It was much needed!

Random Thought of the Day: This isn't really random so much as amazing, but we got a little snow last night. That's not amazing... not this winter anyway. Yesterday afternoon, even before the first drop fell, lots of birds were coming to our bird feeder on the back deck to stock up. It was so crazy because I've only ever seen the three same birds (and two very pesky squirrels) at the feeder. It was Jonah's Christmas present from Pop (my dad), and I didn't think many birds had found it yet. But yesterday right before the snow, we had our two regular cardinals and our little finch, but we also had a wren or two, some crazy royal blue bird with a brown chest, and a few others. How do they know??? God is amazing.

On another random note, I am in love with this song from Dan Zanes and Friends Family Dance. It's in Spanish, and it is just GREAT! I love that whole CD actually. (It's mostly English.) Aunt Amy and Uncle Peyton gave it to us for Christmas, and really, it can brighten my whole day, and Jonah loves it too. Every song is just so good. But when this one starts up, Jonah looks straight at me so I'll start singing and dancing. And now, if he's in his exersaucer, he kinda hops up and down to the music too. It's the cutest.

I'm SO GLAD that you guys got a chance to go out - TWICE! SWEET!

All 3 of us are going out for a fancy dinner tomorrow night - pray for us! ha! Taking a 3 1/2 year old to a really nice restaurant seemed like a good idea last week, but now I'm starting to doubt myself!

I LOVE crazy 8. My son is almost 16(almost 17) and can wear the size 14 easily. I LOVE the waffle weave shirts. They are so soft and stretchy and easy to get over his stiff little body. He is small for his age but they are very generous with their sizing. We also have to search high and low for elastic waist jeans/pants. When Jonah goes out of the smaller sizes you can find the elastic waist everything at Childrens Wear Digest(CWD online) They are a bit pricey but on the off season you can get great deals and the clothes are made very very well. Hanna Andersson is also a HUGE favorite of mine. The jammies are the BEST. Sooo soft and no buttons/zippers or anything. They wash amazingly well and last forever. My son is still wearing jammies I bought him back when he was 10 and the best part is once he's out of the largest kids size they make them in adult as well. Again, these are pricey and I could never afford them at full price but have been very successful finding them on ebay and when CWD has online sales I snag as many as I can off season. We also love their Deck pants which are really a long short. OH and by the way. I HATE clowns too! Totally FREAK me out.

Jonah's looking so great, sitting up so big! The bird you were referencing (royal blue w/ brown chest) sounds just like a blue bird. They are gorgeous. :)

Patrice, I got some super cute summer clothes for my boys from Mini Boden that were cottony and seemed like maybe Jonah could wear them. (www.miniboden.com)

Thanks for turning me on to Crazy 8's. We don't have one of those here. I can tell you now I will be ordering A LOT from them. Saw lots of stuff on sale I NEED to buy for my sweet boy!
Hope Jonah is OK in the AM since you had a hard time settling him down.
Much love and prayers!

I knew there was a reason I liked you...I LOVE that Dan Zanes song, too! They used to play it regularly on Playhouse Disney but I haven't seen it in awhile. Thank you for the link!
Also, the clown thing? Right there with you....
I also echo the love for Mini Boden and Hanna Andersson...and sometimes you can find those "onesie" type tops at Babies R Us in bigger sizes.
Happy Valentines Day!

Too bad about the clown, cause "I Spy" books are the greatest!!

Is there someone in your church, or that you know who knows how to sew with t-shirt material?

I found this tutorial on how to make a pattern for the lap shoulder shirt. I do not know how to sew jersey. I do fine with other fabrics, but not stretchy ones.

If someone had an embroidery machine, they could put some neat pictures or words on the front. Or you could do the printer inron ons yourself.

I wish I could sew some for him:(

Hope you all have had a great day! I ran across this site while looking for shirts to embroider. I thought you might want to check it out: http://www.estella-nyc.com/kids-lap-t-shirts.html
I cannot tell you anything about them but they are a lapped top. Hopes this gives you another option!

OMG! I just looked at the cost of the shirt - $30! May be cost prohibitive. I would check with your local fabric stores to see if there are groups that sew for children. With a soft knit and serger the shirt should not be too hard to put together.

What about these? I think they are plain, but for everyday wear, they should work, and are very reasonable. I think there are also some etsy sellers that embellish these American Apparel shirts.

Hey Patrice, just wondering if Jonah is still having vomiting issues? My friend's son Oscar was having feeding and vomiting issues so bad he had to get an NG tube. He continued to gush up the NG feedings until his dad discovered putting molasses in the feeds. Oscar stopped vomiting right away, and started gaining weight. I immediately thought of Jonah and wanted to suggest it. His mom just melts the molasses in warm water then adds it to his feeds. Maybe give it a try?

I don't know if they have cute designs or even colors, but we have 24 month sized lap onesies from Carters (in white). I buy them at the Carters store.

I've never thought this about Jonah, ever ... but he actually looks like Matt and not like you quite so much, at least in the first pic you posted (the one of you in the yellowish-gold shirt). It must be the bangs. And truly, when else should you cut a baby's bangs but when he's sleeping? Too cute!

I'm glad you had a couple of outings this week. That's so great! We actually got to have one Sunday night. It had been a long, long time.

Praying always. Have a great week!

Cute pics! Can Jonah wear onesies? It's been a few years, but I remember buying long sleeve Gerber onesies for my daughter in sizes up to 24 months. They had the lap shoulders.

Hgrace said...

I just wanted to mention a great way to get those larger lap-shoulder t-shirts is to buy the carters 12, 18 or 24 month onesies and just have someone cut them into shirts (sergers make this so easy if you know anyone!). Plus they're super soft and will fit forever, especially since you can make them as long as you want :) I often find them at R.oss in a 5-pack for 7.99 :) If you can't find any anywhere, feel free to email me, as I used to sell painted onesies and have quite a few new ones lying around! Thanks for letting me share and God bless!

My grandfather was a farmer and he always said if it was raining in the morning and you looked outside and could hear and see birds it was going to rain all day. If there were no birds in sight, it meant the rain was going to clear off and the birds were waiting for the sun to come out. It is amazing how God works! Hope you have good luck in finding shirts that continue to work for Jonah. My heart sure goes out to you that something I totally take for granted with my kids is a challenge for others! You are such an inspiration and you should only blog as much as you feel comfortable with and have time for. Your blog is great and I'm sure everyone would agree that we don't want it to become another burden for you (even if we do enjoy seeing adorable pictures of Jonah and hearing how you and he are doing). You guys are always in our thoughts and prayers! :)
