sitting up

Jonah is getting so great at sitting up. He's still a little shaky if he tries to lean for a toy or gets overly excited, but he can sit up for as long as he wants now. I'm still too nervous to walk away, but mostly just because I know he could really hurt himself if he fell over. I'm so proud of him.

And man, I cannot wait until I can just sit him down and walk away. It's frustrating for both of us that he can't do more on his own. Cognitively he wants to be crawling around and exploring, but physically, he just can't yet. And it really ticks him off and makes for a lot of whining. I feel sad that he can't crawl and move and manipulate toys like he wants to. When you are walking around with him now, he's constantly leaning over or trying to flip himself backwards to see what he wants to see and to go where he wants to go.

But he's working hard, and we'll get there. I think he'll be a lot happier when he can sit with more confidence. I don't know if he'll crawl (he's still showing no interest in pushing up much on his hands or knees) or just go straight to walking. Either way those things are a long way off and will lead to new problems and new padding/bandaging solutions. It makes me tired just thinking about it. :)

Today I just took the boppy with us to whichever room we were in so I could sit him down and let him do his own thing. It worked pretty well on the carpeted floors but he almost fell over on the hardwood because the boppy just slid with him. He did play a long time on the middle of our bed.

We went to Moe's tonight for dinner and Matt snapped this one right after we got home. This picture is deceptive though. Neither of us were in this good of a mood, especially not Jonah. He whined all the way to the restaurant, the whole time we were there, and all the way home. I think he was just overly tired, but I gave him some Motrin before bed just in case his teeth are bothering him.

I started a Twitter account today. It's not to promote my blog or anything, but more of a way to give updates on Jonah in a more timely way. I feel like I need a way to say "Everything's okay, but I'm too tired to post." Also, it's nothing personal, but I'm not going to befriend blog friends on Facebook. I feel like I want that one thing to be "real life" friends and people I know from church etc. I hope I don't offend anyone, and I hope the Twitter thing will sort of replace that. Sorry. I don't know much about Twitter or how it works, but you can follow me
here or see my latest few updates on my right sidebar.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. We have to take down the tree and all the decorations tomorrow. Because we celebrated a late Christmas with Matt's family, I haven't had the chance yet. I'm really dreading it. Ugh.

Oh my goodness, could I possibly be FIRST? Wow! Not sure how that could happen. I missed out a few days and really enjoyed catching up. I am so glad that there are no strictures and that he had read the chart.... Also, we are just now taking down Christmas. We keep it up until Jan. 6 to celebrate the Wisemen coming. Anywho, where's all the eager help when it is time to take it down? My thoughts about him sitting on the hard floor is this: you can buy this rubber matting stuff in Target or wherever I am pretty sure. It is in the shelf liner section. Anyway, put it down and then the boppy and him. It will keep it from scooting. You can use it for all sorts of things. I used it to keep their plate from sliding away when they were learning about that, I use it on my sewing machine to keep the foot pedal from sliding, I use it under dog dishes to keep that from traveling. It is great stuff. You just cut the size you need. Hope that helps. LOVE TO YOU! Jennifer in Southeast, NC

He is so handsome!

On the sitting up thing.

have you tried one of those walkers?
Where he can just sit in it and kind of scoot along with his feet without really having to put any weight down.

May not be suitable but just a thought.

He is doing great. He is going to be a ladies man when he is older.

Jonah just looks so precious and healthy! You, my dear, are sounding weary, tired. Are you getting enough rest, enough help?
I'll send up a special prayer tonight for rest for Jonah's Mummy and Daddy.

Yay, Jonah! And just to make you feel better, we had late Christmases too and I'm in the middle of taking it all down. =)

Look at him sitting up - that's terrific! I haven't broken down and started Tweeting yet, so I'll just be happy to follow your blog for now!

Hope sweet Jonah is able to rest and that his teeth don't bother him too much. Praying as always!

Love from TX!
Laura

PS - I noticed Jonah playing with a Whoozit in one of the pics. Caroline's very first baby gift (10 years ago!!) was a Whoozit, and she loved it! Glad Jonah likes his, too!

He is a boy version of his mama. If you were a boy, that is what you would look like at his age. Your little mini me.

That is so wonderful about him sitting up! I pray he continues to progress. I also pray that God gives you the grace and strength that you need each day.
PS I have to take down my Christmas decor tomorrow to - UG.

Aren't Boppy's the best!! My "baby" is almost 16 months but I still have ours out. I just can't seem to bare the thought of packing it away.

You should get him a Bumbo Chair. They are made of a rubbery something and rather soft. Although maybe not soft enough for him but you could check them out. I didnt realize how much he looked like you until these photos.

We had the same problem with slipping boppies on the hardwood floors. I used to put my husband's yoga mat under the Boppy- it gave lots of extra traction. He uses the Jade brand mats- they are much "stickier" (they are natural rubber) than the ones you can find in stores.

Love the Jonah updates- glad everything went fairly well the other day!

Okay, so I loved all the pictures of Jonah today...as always. But I have a question sort of off topic. I LOVE your comforter/duvet cover. Would you share a better picture of it and/or where you got it. Please!!! I've been searching for just the right one for about 3 years now, and would love to find one that I just love. Thanks.

No offense taken! I totally understand. I just de-friended you on FB. Jonah is SO cute!

I actually noticed the bottom 2 teeth for the first time, and they looked like PEARLS to me. He is growing up right before our eyes, no matter the obstacles.
prayers always,

He's just so cute!!!

I don't have any wise words about the sitting up, it comes to each baby in their own time, but you're a great mom and he's an amazing boy, and together you'll get there.

I remember seeing this thing on onestepahead.com that might be nice for Jonah to sit in. I'll try and find the link and send it to you. It was more flat on the bottom than the boppy is so maybe it wouldn't slide so much? Let me see if I can find it. Congrats on sitting sweet Jonah!!! You rock big man!!!

erika said...

Found it...http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=534495&itemNumber=13947&cmSource=Ecatalog&rfx_page=24&RFX_PassBack=&rfx_catalogname=winterpreview2010&rfx_catalog=1
If that link doesn't work right, it's called "Lean on me activity booster", from onestepahead.com

I see that Jennifer beat me to the punch, talking about the non-skid shelf liner stuff!! I have bought it in rolls in the dollar store. Also, it is basically the same stuff as the non slip stuff that you can buy to put under area rugs. You can buy fairly large pieces of it at ikea, and then you could cut it in squares, rather than the 12 inch strips of shelf liner.

Unknown said...

I was at IKEA and saw the nonskid things you put under carpet and wondered it this might work for Joah sitting up to keep his seat from sliding?

Do you an IKEA close by? If not and you want to try it, I'd be happy to get it for you and send it along.

I don't twitter so I will be hoping for an occasional post to keep updated.

When my daughter was learning to crawl we had really hard floors, so I bought her some crawling knee pads. I believe they are made by Snazzy Baby.
They velcro around the back of baby's knees. Not sure if they would cause more harm to Jonah, or if his leg bandages would be thick enough to protect his legs.
Anyway, I don't need them anymore so if you'd like I'd be happy to send them to you so you don't have to buy something that might not work.
If so just shoot me an e-mail--

Patrice, I check in every single day on you two...and pray even more often. I know our God is listening and will sustain you. I've not commented b/c I didn't have a google acct before :). Just know I am praying ceaselessly on your behalf as a mom who knows chronic, weird, horrible illnesses. I hope the dismantling of Christmas went great, and baby J is an better mood today!

It's nice to hear about Jonah's achievements! And no rush on either walking or the Christmas things! We finally took ours down this weekend...

Have you tried using a bumbo chair? I loved it for my little girl! You can, of course, find them at Target ;)
