checking in

We've had a hectic couple of days here lately. I really am swamped with holiday stuff, but I've made some good progress. I'm doing almost all my shopping online. I'm so thankful that that is an option.

I do have some photos of our tree and Jonah "helping," but I still need to take pictures of the outside. I'll get them up soon... hopefully.

Jonah is eating much better now that his lip is almost completely healed (Praise God!), but he has been having a three to four ounce gusher almost every day since Friday. I have no idea why that's started back again. He's not acting like he feels bad or running a fever or anything, so I'm pretty sure it's just his reflux stuff, but it sure is frustrating. I thought we were growing out of this!

I LOVED all the ideas on the holiday traditions, and I'm planning on incorporating some now and some when he gets a little older. I've already gotten his ornament, his very first Christmas book, and I know we'll read about Jesus' birth together. I also loved the idea of a family game to open and play together on Christmas eve and baking cookies with Dad. And since my living room prints definitely did not look like Christmas, I wrapped them in gift wrap and hung them back up. What a great idea! Now it all looks very festive and coordinated. I wanted stockings with our names on them, but they were very expensive on Etsy, so I found these at JCPenny. I got the red one for me and the green ones for Matt, Jonah, and Gabe. They were on sale for $15 plus an additional $5 to get them personalized, but now they are on sale for $9. Isn't that always the way? They are so cute though, and I'm really happy with how they turned out.

I just want to say again how thankful we are that you care and pray for Jonah. Even when things are hard, we feel wrapped in prayer and love. And when things are easier (like they are now!), I love that we get to share that joy with you. Thanks!

I love Jonah and all of your postings.

Regarding the gushers, some reflux meds are very weight sensitive, so maybe see if he has had the dosage changed recently. Prevacid is especially sensitive.

Thank YOU for sharing! I need to go back and read everyone's traditions now.

Hi Patrice-

So glad to hear Jonah's lip is better! Hope the gushers will die down soon too.

Can't wait to see pics of the decorations!

Continuing to pray for all three of you!

Love,
Laura

Glad to read the good news... especially about Jonah's lip

Maybe he is just "stuffing" his tummy--causing the gushers. Now that he decided that his bottle holds good tasting stuff he can't get enough.

Happy to hear about all your Christmas decorating..I had never thought about wrapping the pictures to a more festive look. Looking forward to see the pictures.

Enjoy this wonderful time with your precious baby.
As always continuing to pray.

Love, Wanda

Great idea! I never thought of wrapping the presents. I went out and bought a picture of Santa to hang between our stockings since we don't have a chimney. One thing I would like to add to my collection is a really nice nativity scene. I'm excited for you and Matt to have Jonah's first Christmas to look forward to. What a precious time.

I am so glad that Jonah is doing well. It brings a smile to my face and helps me to start the day out praising God for all the good things in life. He is good to us, isn't He? What a blessing to be having such a great first Christmas with Jonah. I have been praying for little stress for you all during this season, and yet again my God is answering those prayers.
Have a blessed Christmas!

I'm so glad he's eating better and that his lip is doing better! My son has severe reflux, and he still has very occasional gushers at 17 months. I know it gets frustrating! We noticed a huge decrease in them when he started walking.
Praying he continues to eat well for you!

I was going to say the same thing about the weight...since JOnah has been putting some weight on you might call the pharmacy and ask what his dose should be to make sure he is on the correct one. A lot of the time the pharmacist knows the correct dosage better than the doctor.

Yes that IS always the way. I did the same things with our stockings this year and now they're on sale as well. Darn it! Oh well. Sorry about the gusher thing. We dealt with something very similar last year for 2 months (granted, NOTHING like what you're going through) but it was VERY VERY frustrating and VERY VERY scary!! Praying you through!

Merry Christmas to Baby Jonut and his sweet family. Jennifer in Southeast, NC

Oh! I just read the comments. Ashley said that she would like a really nice Nativity set. I forgot about ours. We have used it so much and it is such a part of Christmas I did not think of it as Tradition (rather it is just "CHRISTMAS" to us!). We have the FONTANINI collection. You can have just a "starter" of the basics but you can also expand (as we have) to the whole town of Bethlehem and even they have a series "Life of Christ" which is neat. LOTS of online places to order. The pieces are a resin and VERY durable. They do break but it is hard. My three kids play with it EVERY year and most have held up well and one that broke was fixable (it was a basket handle) and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it. We LOVE it. Each piece comes with a fictional story about how they connect with the new Christ child. It is a great series and we add a piece (or two or three) most years. Jennifer of Southeast, NC (you know, the person who types first, and then reads.... Such a teacher!)

Yay, glad to hear you are accomplishing things and that Jonut is eating, although I'll keep praying he gushes less. I'm also happy to hear that is lip is healed, thank goodness for that. Big hugs to you sweet family, always thinking of you and always praying...oh, and I LOVE your stockings that you picked out...so cute! :O)

I read your blog daily, but I think I have only commented once or twice. Just wanted to say you are a greater writer, a strong person and a great mom. I love that you made the blog about traditions!

Also with his gushers, I dont remember if you said all the exact meds he was on, but have they tried reglan? with my son he had a heart issue which caused his esophagas to be swollen and he would have gushers a lot.

They put him on reglan because it was like an anti vomit medication for reflux.

Just thought I would let you know about it!

Have you asked your pediatrician about "Magic Mouthwash"? Typically, a magic mouthwash is prescribed to treat the pain associated with mucositis caused by radiation therapy or chemotherapy. It is also prescribed for other oral ulcers and other mouth pain. As a RN, I have seen it work wonders with patients. Perhaps it would help for Jonah.

Glad to hear Jonah's lip is almost better.

I had a similar problem with the lights on the outside of our house. Half of two strands weren't lighting. I threw them away! Then, when I went to turn the lights on a week later, half of a strand that was up wasn't lighting! I'm throwing them all away after Christmas and starting over!

I love seeing pictures of Jonah. He's getting so big! Thanks for sharing.

Janet

P.S. Hopefully the weather will be okay in NC tomorrow -- I'm flying into Wilmington to help my son and his wife move back to St. Louis from Jacksonville. It's going to be a long drive back.

I love the stockings! If we didn't already have some I'd surely be buying a few!
What great news about Jonah's lip, too!
