a better day

Yesterday was a better day (not that the day before was bad, but, as you can tell, I got in quite a funk toward the end). But anyway, yesterday was better despite Jonah huge-vomiting all over the floor and the cat starting to lick it up before we could get it cleaned up. It was better despite Jonah having a squeeze-out-the-sides poop while Matt was at church that spilled out on my jeans and got on the floor (unbeknownst to me) that I later stepped in (niiiiiice).

But yesterday was better. Dressing change went well, and he learned a new sound, and he wasn't quite as fussy. I'm expecting an even better day today (although, physically, I'm feeling like poopy, having my visitor after about two years of not... my body is getting me back... sorry, boys, for TMI.)

A couple times this week I've decided to get up early and go ahead and take my shower before Jonah gets up. Typically I wait til he goes down for a nap after dressing change (because I'm usually pretty greasy), but in an attempt to feel slightly more human, I'm trying to shower, dry my hair, and put on make-up first thing. It helps. However, on Tuesday I got up at 6:40 (because Jonah had been waking up at 7:15 every day), so that I could be ready when he got up. He slept til 9. Yesterday I didn't do it, and he woke up at 7:30. Today I did get up at 6:40, and he's still sleeping at 8:10. That's right. On the days I get up at the butt-crack of dawn to get ready, Jonah chooses to sleep in. I told you he has a sensor. I don't know how he knows, but he knows. Oh yes. He knows.

I think I'm going to cook tonight. We've been eating hot dogs all week, because we defrosted a 28 pack, and felt like we needed to go ahead and cook them lest they go bad. So we did. And we've eaten almost all of them. Gross. (But man, they were tasty.) So I may cook tonight. And I may take pictures. And I may post them here. I don't know why except that I need to feel like I have a "project," and that's about all I can come up with. So if you don't care what I had for lunch, either pretend you care what I have for dinner of just ignore my food posts. :)

Did you guys read about Sam??? Her WBC count started coming in. WOOHOO! God is great! She's doing better too. Thank you so much for praying and following her story. It means so much to me that you would take the time to go over and share your love with her too. I've read her guestbook and saw that many of you had posted there (and it made me a little teary eyed, to be honest). Her mom is so encouraged by your love and support. I cannot explain to you the power of knowing you are being prayed for by people all over the country, Canada, Australia ... Amazing. Thanks for cheering on Sam and praying for this hope.

Ok, I'm gonna run now. Maybe Jonah will let me make the bed AND brush my teeth before he wakes up. And on a completely different note, how awesome am I for using the words "unbeknownst" and "lest" in the very same post? You know you like it.

You crack me up Patrice. You always do. Your posts are very witty and I love it! Only a real mom can post about "the visitor", poop and puke and still find some humor in it all. And yes, babies totally have sensors. My daughter has a sensor that goes off as soon as my eyes open every day and she is teaching our 1 week old the same skill. Silly babies. It must be something they blog about on their baby blogs or baby twitter.

Glad things are going a little better for you. Maybe you are on to something on the "get up before the baby" and get yourself ready. I'm just not disciplined enough for that! Take care
Erika

PS hot dogs do tast mighty yummy in mac-n-cheese...not just for toddlers anymore :)

Man Patrice, you are super mom, I don't have to accomplish 1/4 of what you have to accomplish in a day and I rarely get ready...or cook. I think it would help me too. Thanks for the reminder. Now...when you post those pictures of dinner (because I DO care) don't forget about some Jonah pics! K, thanks. Take care.

My youngest was the same way around that age in regard to sleeping she always woke up when I would lay my head down on the pillow and seemed to sleep in when I got up and moving early and vice versa when I wanted to sleep in and maybe it is just a regular baby thing for Jonah. I have some suggestions you could try like a fan in the room a table top type (overhead fans are to quite) it helps with "white noise" in the room I had one that was kind of loud or a radio that plays all night. Also try closing the door to your room when you are getting ready for bed or watching tv and only open it once you are going to sleep (be sure to grease noisy hinges)I don't know how you are but I hate closing the kids doors but if you are brave you could try closing his door. Even the sound of my husband turning off the computer at night seemed to wake my daughter up (my husband didn't believe me until I forced him to try turning of the computer at her bedtime for a week and all was well with the world). I know it is hard but also trying to shift your bedtime to within an hour of his might help I know that leaves little you time but it might help. We had a rough six months of no sleep with our little one and it was just her way with things she still does it from time to time. That's how my husband knows he is staying up to late. Maybe it will help, I am praying for restful nights and happy days for you and your sweet Jonah.

You're so funny! 28 hot dogs in one week is quite an impressive accomplishment! I too decided to make dinner tonight. We bought half a cow a while ago so we have all sorts of beef in our freezer so I decided to make a roast. Nice and easy. In the crockpot in the morning, the house smells good all day, and the hubby comes home to a meal he loves. I wish all meals were so simple. I'd probably cook more if that were the case :)

I noticed unbeknownst and lest before you even pointed it out and I have to say that I was impressed--true evidence that you have not lost your mind.

I find your post hilarious. I love your sense of humor--I am reminded of one of my favorite verses--(from the KJV--because that how my mama taught it):
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.

Keep laughing!

Good morning! Glad it was a better day. I try not to offer unsolicited advice to my new-mommy friends (because I hate it when I get it!) but the one thing I will tell them is that naps and showers are the keys to your sanity. Especially the shower part- it's definitely a pick-me-up!

YAY for Sam - it was so good to read her mom's post and see good news! She's on my prayer list now and will continue to pray for her.

And for you, Matt and sweet Jonah!

Love from TX,
Laura

You always crack me up!
And yes, these babies have sensors. And what about that sensor that you have to hold them standing up? God forbid you sit down! What's up with that one?

I have gone over and read Sam's story and I am totally shocked at everything she's having to do to try and have a better life. I could not believe the photos of how bad this disease actually is. I have a whole new empathy towards your precious baby Jonah and Sam and all the others who are suffering from this horrible disease.

Still praying for you all.

yOU ARE a HOOT!!!!!!!!!! Have you made definite plans about that speech you mention way back when? By my living in Durham I would love to come & hear you...

I loved Jonah's video...he gets his sense of humor from mommie..of course I have never read anything Matt has written so he may have a great sense of humor too.

Good luck on dinner...hot dogs??? gives me an idea for my dinner tonight...I love hot dogs, esp the "red" ones...

so glad about Sam, I was thrilled when I read that post yesterday. How awesome she does not remember the major bad part...God is GREAT.

I have been waking up before my boys since the day we brought them home from the hospital. I just feel SO much more human when I get a chance to shower and make-up and get a cup of coffee in before they are up. Then when they take a nap, I don't have to shove all of that in AND try for some me time.

But you are right on with the wake time. If I decide one morning that I'm just going to get up when they do...they wake up early. And when I get up before them they sleep in. LOL

You are too funny! I know it's sad but I read your posts just to cheer me up sometimes...I know right? You're like, "Ha ha! This blog to cheer you up?" Yes, your constant honesty and wit through all that is thrown at you (and thrown up on you) is such a blessing you'll never even understand how much so. Thanks, and prayers to you!
