hot girls and tasty squash

Our friends, *Katie and Nathan, came to visit this weekend. We had a great time hanging out. Katie and I left the kids with the boys and got to go to Kohl's and Target, and then we all went to eat at El Maguey on Saturday night. I was nervous as this was only about the second time that we've taken Jonah to a sit-down restaurant, but he did GREAT. So then we tried to go out to eat again after church today, and it was a complete disaster. Matt ended up having to take Jonah home, we had to order all our food in take-out boxes, and I ended up riding back to the house in Katie and Nathan's car, literally twisted completely sideways lying on my right hip between the girls' two car seats. It was quite the experience. I asked Katie (a more experienced mom) at what point you can classify it as a "disaster." She said that we could only call this one an "adventure." I'm not so sure I want to see what a "disaster" looks like, but my guess is it would be something like today but would also include mass quantities of stinky green Alimentum poop or Niagra Falls vomit. Maybe I'll just put us under house arrest. :)

* (Note: I have linked to Katie's blog in hopes that she will be encouraged to update more frequently... you know, whenever she doesn't have any crops to harvest that is.)

This is Katie and Nathan's newest bundle of joy and Jonah's girlfriend, Quinn. Isn't she beautiful? She has just turned two months old, and is just the sweetest, most laid back baby. I'm hoping she'll rub off a little on Jonah.

This was Jonah's reaction to Quinn. I wish I had gotten video of their first face-to-face encounter. He just started smiling so big and was just talking and talking. It was the cutest thing. He hasn't been around a lot of other babies since we don't ever put him in the nursery, but his reaction to her was very distinct. I think he's in love. I'm okay with it.

"Hey, baby. How you doin'?"

"Come a little bit closer. You know you want to."

"Now THAT's what I'm talkin' about."

***************************************************

And here was Jonah's FIRST that occurred this weekend. Butternut Squash anyone?

The As Seen On TV sensation, the Magic Bullet. On sale for $20 off at Kohl's plus a 15% off coupon, plus I earned $20 in Kohl's cash. A pretty good deal if I do say so myself. And I'm totally pumped about making Jonah's baby food myself. I never thought I'd be a green mom, but all of a sudden I find myself cloth-diapering and making my own baby food. AND I drive a Hybrid. How did that happen? But I digress. Back to the point - I love me some Magic Bullet. SO. EASY.

The first bite - not so sure.

After a few seconds of consideration. The Verdict - SUCCESS!

Speaking of being in love...

I love that boy like he loves his Butternut Squash... which is A LOT.

Woo-hoo! Yay for Jonah and his woman - they are just too sweet! So glad he liked the squash, too. You're far braver than I - the best I could do with making my own food was mushing up bananas! Go Magic Bullet!

I love that last picture of you two - both of you are IN LOVE.

Hope you have a wonderful week - praying as always!!

Love,
Laura

PS - don't worry about the restaurant "adventure." You win some, you lose some!! :)

Congrats on making your own baby food. I find it so rewarding!!

Here's a great website that has lots of info. I'm sure you will have to adjust to fit any special needs Jonah might need, but it's a start and a lot of mom's like this site.

And if you ever have questions, I don't mind puttiny my 2 cents in... I'm not an expert, but have been doing it for my little girl (11mo) and she's still alive. ;o)

I made all of my son's babyfood and it was so rewarding! I used a blender for a while then got a small food processor--looks like a magic bullet would have been great!

He sure does have a beautiful smile! Kudos to you on making squash! Looks delicious : )

The pictures are SO CUTE!!!

I didn't have a Magic Bullet in our baby food days, but we had an easy grinder, which I wore out!

It seems Jonah is quite ready for this exciting new phase :)

That picture of him leaning on Quinn's shoulder...love it!

And yay for the butternut squash! That will help ease your mind about what he is eating. Even if we can't get Anthony to take a bottle he is always ready to eat some food!

What a sweet post! I am so glad that Jonah got some Quinn time--I got to visit with her last week and she is a sweetie. Jonah looks very accomplished in these pictures as he takes his first bites of "real food." You know the poops will get messier, right? Patrice, I have to tell you how proud I am of you manipulating the purchase of your Magic Bullet. I couldn't have done that better myself. I have wanted one of those for a while, but I just could not bring myself to spend that much on it. Now I will have to wait until Kohls does their Kohls cash again. I have heard they are way worth the price you pay. Good job!

That last picture is so beautiful. Both smiles. Praying for your family, as always. God bless.

I would say that I hate you, but that would mean we are on speaking terms after your dirty trickery (which we are not). Therefore,

Jonah - tell your mommy to get to work on that transportation thingy. But remind her to be careful about the controls. I DO NOT want to wind up somewhere in the Ithaca Earth Universe. That would be bad.

YIPEE for making your own food. I do it and LOVE it too! :)
Wait till he tries sweet potatoes.. those are by far my babies FAVORITE food!
Oh and mushed up avacado thinned with some BM or formula makes a FANTASTIC first food! And those extra good fats would be wonderfull for him.

I Can't beleive how chubby he's getting!

Give him a big kiss from all of us!

LOVE, LOVE these pictures! They are so adorable together. I made most...ok...about half of Mason's baby food and he loved it. It made me feel like I was doing something good for him too, not to mention it saved us some money along the way as well. An awesome tip somebody recomended to me was to put the food in ice cude trays and freeze them. Then you can just take one cube out and pop in the microwave for like 30 to 45 seconds and it makes the perfect portion. Very handy litte trick! Love you guys-
