guess who...

... is the featured baby this month at Baby Be Blessed Dolls?

This guy!

Doesn't he just look ecstatic? :)

Seriously though, I'm sure you've seen these adorable dolls on other sites, and they are great! They are custom-made, and you get to pick out a verse to have stitched on the tummy.

You can see some examples here.

They are being so gracious to not only make a doll for Jonah, but one for Gabe too! I'm so excited. But I need your help. I'm having a hard time picking out a verse for each of them (so many good ones!). I have a couple ideas, but I'm afraid I'll miss out on the "perfect" verse for each one.

So if you have a great verse in mind for either (or both) doll(s), could you leave it in the comments? And any I don't use, I'd love to compile to pray over Jonah - words of faith, hope, and healing - I can't think of anything better.

Thanks!

the "for I know the plans I have for you" verse or the verse about "before you were knit in your mother's womb, I knew you" (or however it goes. I'm too lazy to look it up)

Hahahaha, Gramma in Indiana and I are on the same wave-length, I guess. I was just thinking of the same few verses that she quoted.

It's Psalm 139 and there's some good words from verses 13 to 16.

I was actually thinking that God already has our lives planned out and knows how long our lives will be, so I thought of this particular verse that you could use for either Gabe or Jonah:

Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

I'm sure any verse you choose will be God-honouring. (I'm Canadian, so pardon the letter "u" in honouring.) :O)

How awesome! I am so excited for you and can't wait to see how the dolls turn out. What a blessing their ministry is!

You know me and Bible verses; I don't know any. Why do I have that mental block? I have no idea. I was always so terrible at Bible Drills ... they always freaked me out. Talk about flop sweat.

I'm sure everyone will come up with great ideas for you, though, and I can't wait to read them all.

Love ya!

I think Jeremiah 29:11 is my pick, but also I love this one I picked out for my son, Samuel, as a life verse at his baby dedication.
"May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock, and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14.

This one sounds almost too harsh for sweet Jonah, but when I read it I was reminded of Jonah's struggle and his ability to teach others about Christ.

2 Cor 12:7-10

Brothers and sisters:
That I, Paul, might not become too elated,
because of the abundance of the revelations,
a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan,
to beat me, to keep me from being too elated.
Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me,
but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you,
for power is made perfect in weakness."
I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses,
in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me.
Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults,
hardships, persecutions, and constraints,
for the sake of Christ;
for when I am weak, then I am strong.

Well, why would they have picked anybody else? I mean look at him! He is so stinkin' cute! :) As for the verses, this is one of my all time favorites:

Romans 5:3-4
Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Hi Patrice-
This is Laura from BabybeBlessed, we are so excited to make these dolls for you!! Give that sweet baby smooshes from us!! Here are my suggestions mainly focused on Gabe...

John 16:20
"..and ye shall be sorrowful but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. "

John 16:22
"Now you are having pain. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you."

Psalms 73:26
"My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever."

1 Peter 5:7
"Cast all your cares upon him; for he careth for you."

Isaiah 41:10
"Fear not; for I am with thee, be not dismayed for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee, I will hold thee with my righteous right hand."

Revelations 7:17
"For the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes."

Psalm 139:16
"Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them."

John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."

Philippians 3:20-21
"But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself."

I agree with Laura and Chris, my FAVOURITE verses are Psalm 73:23-26 which may be a bit long, but you could just have verse 26
'My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.'

Candi said...

Isaiah 40:31..."They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not be faint."

This is the scripture that my workplace, www.siskinrehab.org bases its philosophy of care upon. I swell with pride then promptly tear up every time I hear it.

Also, the Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me."

What a wonderful gift! I went to the site and the dolls are so sweet!

I know several posters have already suggested these, but here's my list:

1. Psalm 139:14

2. Isaiah 41:10 (my 3-yr old says the first part of this at night to keep her from being afraid)

3. Jeremiah 29:11-13

4. Psalm 127:3a - "Behold,children are a heritage from the Lord..."

5. Psalm 27:1- "The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? (Really, the whole psalm is good, but you probably don't have that much room!)

John 14:27 - "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Can't wait to see what you decide!

Praying from TX!
Love,
Laura

Congratulations, Jonah and Gabe! Ahhh, I love me some Jonah pics!

My choice for a verse?

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11

Ahhh, I love that verse! Seriously, I could say it over and over to myself. Is that weird? I just love the part about "a hope and a future."

Anyway, that would be my pick :)

Lots of good suggestions here! I'll add a couple I haven't seen yet:

Romans 8:31 If God is for us, who can be against us?

Ephesians 2:10 We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. (One translation uses the work "masterpiece" instead of workmanship--I love that image for Jonah!

The Lord recently brought this scripture to mind to encourage Jonah's parents, Stellan's parents, and Kate McRae's parents:

"I have chosen and consecrated this temple [Jonah] so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there."
- The LORD in II Chronicles 7:16

For Gabe, I found this because the Lord has already chosen Gabe to bless with his inheritance:

"Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?"
- James 2:5

Whatever verses you use, I know the Lord will use for you :) What a sweet blessing for y'all to have them make these dolls with scripture for both of your beloved boys :)

PS - it's been really encouraging to read over all of these suggestions ... Psalm 73:26 mentioned above seems like a very good consideration, too!

I just received the doll I ordered for a family in our church, their first child was born sleeping and some time later they gave birth to a baby girl. They always want her to know she had a big brother. On the patch I chose the scripture:

Psalm 121:8 The Lord will watchover your coming and going both now and forevermore...

Know that a family in Pa is praying for you! :)

I haven't taken the time out to read all of the suggestions, but this is a verse that I keep so close to me as a mother of a stillborn daughter.

This would be for Gabe of course:

John 16:22

Hi, I just found your blog today through a link on someone else's blog. I wanted to leave a comment because your sweet baby Jonah is precious, and I have a sweet boy named Jonah, too!

I love Is. 41:13
For I am the Lord your God who takes you by the right hand and says to you, "Do not be afraid. I will help you."
I love, love, LOVE this verse.

Also Is. 43:1
But now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, and He who formed you, O [Jonah], "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name, and you are Mine!"

Jer 1:5
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you."

Blessings to you and your precious family!

So we fasted and entreated (trusted) our God for this, and He answered our prayer. Ezra 8:23

During my pregnancy with my 7 month old I kept asking DH what we were going to name the Baby. And, after months of thinking about it he finally came to me and said "I have a name!! Ezra." A short while (weeks maybe?) later I was cleaning out some old spiral bound note books and I would open them to see what was written inside. Well, I opened this green one. And right there on the first page-in my hand writing was EZRA 8:23. It was confirmation that our Baby was to be named Ezra. And, for a middle name-it's Mark...after Mark 11:22-24 (the verse I stood upon before and during the pregnancy. THAT verse would be awesome too but, it is probably too long. We didn't find out the sex until Ezra Mark was born. I forgot to mention that Ezra is my answered prayer after MULTIPLE miscarriages.

Your blog has touch me DEEPLY. Thank you. Sharon Ferguson

Gosh, there are so many great verses suggested. I'm sure the Lord will lead you to just the right one.

I have a suggestion for Gabe's doll. It was a verse that confirmed to me what my heart needed to know after losing my own babies:

"I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me." 2 Sam. 12:23b (King David speaking after the death of his baby)

It fits with what you wrote in the "3 Things" post, about one of the three things you know being that you WILL see Gabe again.
