the 15 minutes from you know where

So no church again for me today. Jonah threw up all over himself last night, his hand bandages are disgusting, and he looks like a grease monkey. Matt did go to church. Jonah was up a lot last night, so instead of him waking up at 7:15, I got him back to sleep until around 9:15. And then he woke up.

And then it happened... the 15 minutes from you know where.

I go up to get him and he is in a puddle of pee. (NOT a problem.) He also has a poopy diaper. (Still NOT a problem.) So I bring him downstairs, take off his shirt (which is soaked), and start changing his diaper. He then begins puking up mucus and choking. (PROBLEM.) So I just let his poopy legs go and suction his nose and mouth. I then go back to cleaning up the poopy. It doesn't look so bad... It looks as if I am going to only have to change the top layer of bandaging on only one leg. That's easy. But then, while I am working on the top part of the leg, he proceeds to pee all over the bottom part... through two of the three layers. And as I try to finish up wrapping the top, he kicks his leg, and the roll of gauze unwraps and lands right in the pee puddle (where else?). So I unwrap his whole leg and open a new roll of gauze (with my teeth, of course) and begin working on the bottom part of the leg. As I'm doing this, Jonah starts choking on mucus again, and this time it comes out of his mouth and nose. So I have to drop everything, pick him up, and attempt to turn him over (I say attempt because he's doing that completely rigid, standing up in the air thing that scared babies do... and did I mention he has a fragile, unbandaged leg exposed?). I suction him out again, finish wrapping the unwrapped leg, and finally finish changing his diaper.

It's been a long day... and we've only been up for an hour.

(This was not at all funny when it was happening, but I'm hoping to be able to find some humor in it later, thus the "funny stories" label. Surely it will be funny, right? Someday. Maybe?)

The "good" part of this story? You didn't go to church and this didn't happen there! Hang in there!

Patrice - We all have those days. If you need a laugh (which doesn't compare at all to your story), check out this post http://mccormackspot.blogspot.com/2009/05/oh-what-night.html.

All I can say is to keep the same great outlook you have.

As the mom of 2 grown kids and the grandma of one 18 month old, I am qualified to say that all too soon these days will be a distant memory because your baby boy will grow up so fast. As I read once...the days are long, the years are short. It doesn't seem that way now, but believe me 'this too shall pass'. Hang in there and keep the posts coming. I love to check on your adorable Jonah.

I can tell just by reading your post that you are able handle all of these curveballs head on, and post about it with humor of course. Here's wishing you a relaxed Sunday!

Jonah says "hey mom let's get the day going with a bang" (ha)

Look on the bright side, the day will get better...or not..but one day down the road you can show him the video of rasberries & pooping & tell him that is pay back..for days like today.

At least you did not go out the door screaming, you sat down & told us about your "thrilling" morning.

Hang in there :)

Yeah probably a blessing in disguise that you weren't in church at the time.
Praying for you and your adorable son!

Sorry that you had such a horrible night. Little Jonah is so adorable though. Hoping tonight is a breeze!!

Prayers for a smoother road ahead...and I'm sure this will be funny one day. (Even ER visits are now amusing: once my son busted his mouth open and required stitches on the inside of his lower lip...that cost $600 by the time all was said and done...and 15 minutes after he got them in, en route back home - he had them chewed out. Good thing the super-glue on the outside took, though. But that was $600 down the...um...drain? :)

I can't promise you it will be funny because as we were switching bedrooms for my kids and I was painting over the colostomy poop and medicine stained wall of Kyleigh I still cried (again)... now mind you its been TWO years since that colostomy has been gone (we lived two years WITH it though...) and still have meds and catheters and feeding tubes and the likes but... it did hurt a "little" less...

Hopefully it will make your day to know that if you wear your TEAM T-shirt to Chick Fil A on Labor Day you get a FREE sandwich!!!

Check it out on my blog!!

Hang in there. Write it all down for him to read when he is 14, he just might appreciate you more than the typical teenager. Are you saving your posts to your documents? You can print them out from there & save in a nice notebook for him.

Wow, i have never seen your blog b4 but found it today and was heartbroken that a child so little and innocent has to go through so much, it just isnt fair. Yes its an incredible blessing that he is here and loving live but why does he have to be hurting so very much.

Although like you i wouldnt want to open a can of worms but i have a now 12 yr old who i had bumbers on his crib as a baby, although the risk of sids did worry me but unfortunatly for us the risk of josh hitting his head and developing a clot/stroke etc, was much higher than the risk of sids.

I think it is all about the measured risk, for you the risk of vlisters and infection etc are much higher than the risk of sids so its about weighing the risks i believe and unfortuanly we all have to do it even if the people that are not using bumpers do not realise they too are weighing risks.

They are choosing not to use the bumper and risking bangs to the head that could result in traumas etc but the risk of thier child dying from that trauma is low, our risk on that was very high so of course we had bumers to protect him as you also do.

Thank you for sharing its lovely to read your triumps.

You wanna know another miracle? A couple of months ago you would have been freaking out and a mess to be sure. I am positive you are not to the laughing phase just yet but you will be one day! Jennifer in Southeast, NC

Sorry to hear this--especially the scary choking parts. A funny story in return (I was not there so can enjoy the humor more...): my husband and I have taken to letting our 16 month old nap in just a T-shirt and diaper. Apparently, this was a bad idea, because on Friday, my husband went to get N. up from his nap and the diaper was around N.'s ankle. And there was poop...EVERYWHERE. Two hours later, N. and his room were clean again, and I was coming home from work!

Sorry. I think of you everyday and all your load on TOP of just being a mommy. Prayers lifted daily. Thankful that Jonah is alright after all that.

Dear sweet Patrice:
I remember waking up one morning hearing Hannah cooing and laughing in her crib wondering what had her in such a good mood. I laid there listening with a smile on my face for about 15 minutes and finally crawled out of the bed to go and get her. When I entered the room I was hit by a nauseating smell...and then when I walked close enough to the crib to look over the bumper pads and railing - - I SAW IT! She was covered from head to toe in vomit & poop...and not just a little spit up --- it was EVERYWHERE. And I will never forget the SMILE on her face. Of course, I was horrified and so stunned I literally didn't know where to start...I can look back now and laugh about that! Its been 12 years:)
I hope the rest of your day was better...and tonight, tomorrow and so on! The Lord bless you with peace and sweet rest! And laughter in the near future.
Love, Aimee Pence

Girl, I remember it well. My twins did that mucous through the nose thing and it was scary/disgusting. Isn't it amazing how every body part we have becomes a tool to care for these kids (i.e. teeth with the gause)?

All I can say is - wow, that's quite a start to your day.

Praying it got easier - and not 'funnier'.

I know it wasn't funny when it happened, but it is one of those funny mommy moments to look back on:)

In two seconds flat Ethan handed Emma his aquaphor after lotions tonight & she scooped almost an entire jar of it out and smeared it on her face and in her hair. OH MY GOODNESS! Let's just say she doesn't absorb it like her brother.....

We'd love to fix ya'll lunch one day in the next couple weeks if you are up to getting out visiting:)
