a day of firsts

Gabe's day (Wednesday) held many firsts for Jonah. Here they are in pictures.
Jonah's first time wearing pants. His diaper is so big and his legs are completely bandaged, so pants don't seem to be a problem... except that it's hot here now, so they're a little too warm.
Jeannie (Kathryn's mom) made Jonah some satin-lined shirts with no sleeves (I was worried about seams under his arm pits) that he can wear. It's a little redneck, muscle-tee for my taste, but you do what you gotta do. He needs some color in his life.

That's right, people... Jonah's first trip to Target! SO. MUCH. FUN. He slept through the entire thing, but I'm sure we'll make many more trips.

Jonah's first Target purchase. A plug-in bottle warmer for the car. This and my hands-free pumping bustier (Thanks, Elaine) may be the greatest inventions EVAH. I may even love them more than my nav system I got for Christmas, and I LOVE my nav system, so that's saying a lot.

This cashier looked at me really funny as I documented our time in line. I don't know what's so strange about taking 10 pictures of your baby making his first Target purchase. Monumental.
Jonah's first in-the-car bottle.

Jonah's first in-the-back-of-the-car diaper change. Please excuse all our crap.

And finally, Jonah's first bath.

Wait, what did you say?

Wait. Wait. You're going to do what?

WHAT?

Seriously though, Jonah DIGS the bath. He cries when you take him OUT. We tried last night with his leg bandages off, but he had new blisters on his feet when we did dressing change tonight. I think we could still do it if we wrap his feet and legs separately, and leave his feet wrapped. It's all trial and error. So I can get his torso, head, and face really clean, but still have to do a sponge bath for his limbs.

So fresh and so clean clean.

You can't get more precious than that! It looks like you have had a full week and Jonah just went with the flow. Way to go Jonah.

I love the picture of him in his bath, eyes bugging out of his head! Priceless.

How adorable! Too funny about taking pictures in the check out lane. I bet that lady was pretty confused!

Also, thank goodness you have a vehicle large enough for a back of the car diaper change. It is so hard to do that in a sedan. LOL! Trust me, I've had to before.

YAY Jonah!! How exciting that you are able to start venturing out of the house. It looks like everyone survived just fine.

I love the "family pic" with him in the tub. Priceless memories. Oh, and the muscle shirt is sooo cute. He does look good with little color. Hang in there. I know the road has been a little bumpy, but I'm sure Jonah's smiles make it all worth while.

Still praying in Oklahoma.

Awesome pictures, thank you so much for sharing, loved the ones at bath time. I can tell he is really growing and showing a lot of expression. Sounds like he is real trooper on a lot of his firsts. Enjoy and take a lot of pictures. Continue to keep all of you in my prayers.

Yay for Jonah getting to go to Target! Nothing wrong with taking pics of every moment! Each one is precious. I absolutely love the last pic of Jonah's face in the bath. That is one cute babe you have there Patrice. And the towel wrap does wonders for his complexion! LOL So good to see such beautiful smiles on your faces!

HILARIOUS! I laughed out loud at this post! He looks great in clothes, by the way! But those bath expressions were HILARIOUS! You guys give new meaning to the movie, "Look Who's Talking!" I can just hear Jonah saying, "What? You're putting me where? Oh, okay the spa Mommy--that's cool....Aaaahhhhhhh!" Don't worry too much about the looks you get for taking pictures--document all you can--you will cherish those when he is 3 and you are looking back at them. Pictures are wonderful and thank you for sharing some of his firsts with us.
Much love,
Leigh

I haven't posted a comment in a while (too long), but I haven't stopped reading, praying or thinking of the three of you daily!! Your posts are so informative and sweet. This post is my favorite. The bath pictures are to cute, love the eyes and curious faces on Jonah and the towel on the head is priceless! You have such a look of true love on your face while looking at him in one of the bath pictures.

I am so happy for the three of you that things are going so well. The fundraiser is a super idea and I am waiting to get my magnet:-). Will proudly be sporting it!

Continuing to pray for each of you daily and as always sending so much love to each of you. So very happy for you and sweet Jonah!

LOVE the pictures, especially his bathtime photos!! He is so expressive! I think I have some shots of my Jonah making the same faces! It is so cool that you have so much room for a diaper change in the back of the car, I just tried it in ours and it was so awkward! I have nursed in the car numerous times and I find myself longing for a larger automobile....an SUV would be nice....

I love all of his firsts, do you scrapbook? Not that you have much time to do it right now, but someday you might....these wonderful things would be so much fun to add to his book! I document everything too, from my Jonah's first hospital admittance to our trip to SEATS to ensure we installed our car seat correctly....

Oh my! How I love the picture of the three of you. What a beautiful family, Patrice! Congrats on Jonah's first trip to Target! I worked for the Wal-Mart home office for 10 years but man, I love me some Target!

I am so glad he loves his bath. Its so sweet to see him digging it.

Much love

WOW what a busy day for Jonah. And he was so tired by the end. ALL IN A DAYS WORK BUDDY! PS: I don't shop at Target very often, but went yesterday and can totally understand why you love it so much. Personally I think the prices are a little high, but man do they have some cute stuff!

Melissa said...

I can't believe how much he's grown! Even though I look at the blog and his pictures pretty much every day, it's still funny to see just how big he's getting. Jonah, welcome to the world of shopping, baths, and all those other fun things that make the world go 'round! Enjoy them now...for in the not-too-distant-future you'll be a teenager and think those things are b-o-r-i-n-g. (I know...seems like forever away now, but I can tell you from my own boys, it's only a blink away!)

He looks so BIG now! What a gorgeous baby surrounded by so much love.

Aren't "firsts" fun?! I hope that you can somehow savor them and remember (as someone else commented weeks back) that first and foremost, he's a beautiful baby and your SON. Secondly, he has a challenging condition.

May God give you all the strength and grace for each new first!

So completely sweet. I check your blog often and Jonah and your whole family are in our prayers.

Try putting breast milk in his nostrils, it not only helps to dissolve the hard stuff, but has antibodies, stem cells, all kinds of good things to help get rid of the sniffles/congestion in the first place. I was advised to put breastmilk (a few drops) up my son's nose when we took long plane trips as a preventative measure--they made him sneeze and therefore get the recycled air germs out of his system...since then I've done it many times--use a medicine dropper. Loved the photos of Jonah's bath. What awesome expressions on that adorable face!
