jonah and the perfect day - sunday, march 15th

Once upon a time in a land not so far away, a land that flowed with aquaphor and vaseline gauze, there lived a little baby boy named Jonah.

And for some reason that only God understood, people all over the land loved him. People all over the whole world just prayed and prayed for him - people from most of the United States and places far, far away like Germany, Australia, India, China, Pakistan, and even the United Arab Emirates. For some reason, Jonah had stolen their hearts and had them wrapped around his itsy bitsy finger. (We say for some reason that only God understood, but Jonah's mommy thinks she understood a little bit, because she felt the same way that all of them did, and she fell more and more in love with him every day).

And one day, after so much praying and praying, Jonah had a perfect day.

It all started when mommy and daddy arrived at the hospital around 9:30 in the morning. Mommy got him out of bed when they arrived, and his family snuggled him ALL DAY LONG.

First, he got mommy and daddy snuggles.

Then, he got snuggles from...

Aunt Sarah...

Aunt Kim...

Pop...

Nana...

and finally, Aunt Shaina.

He took all of his bottles like a champ.

He spent many hours with his eyes open, lovingly gazing at his parents. He spent the whole day pain free and content.

And finally, when the time came for his bandage changes, his mommy put him in bed (for the first time in 11 hours) and prayed over him. And all the people all over the world prayed for him. And guess what? God heard each and every prayer, and He answered them with a big, fat okey dokey. And Jonah was pain free during the whole ordeal. He got his hair washed and looked just as cute as a button.

And then his mommy kissed him, and he smiled.

It was the perfect day everyone had been waiting for. And then Jonah's mommy and daddy went home thanking God for the wonderful day He had given them and thanking all the people in all the world who had prayed that it would happen.

And little baby Jonah fell fast asleep, dreaming of the day he could come home, and have the very same kind of day in his own house, in his own clothes, with a little Deac-the-dog lovin' mixed in. And he thought to himself, "Maybe that day is not too far away."

The End

Oh my goodness, Patrice, it looks like no one else is going to tell you this, so I guess I will do it.
The title and the beginning of this post scared me to death !! When we went to bed last night, there was no update yet and my 7-yr-old daughter (who has been watching over my shoulder and asking me about Jonah every day)spontaneously included him and your family in her prayers. So, the first thing I do this morning is get up and check for an update. When I see this title and the new blog design, and the first few sentences which seem to be written in past tense like a fairy tale, my heart just sinks... I am reading, crying, and thinking that where this is all leading is that Jonah's perfect day ends up with him being perfected by Jesus... what a relief to get to the end and see all good news!!

How miraculous that Jonah is doing so well!! But for heavens sake, don't scare us like that again!!

Jonah is screaming, "Get me out of here" He is as tired of this hospital as his mommy and daddy are and is just ready to go to his new home and meet DEAC! He said, "I will show them I am the bravest little boy in the world"! I feel the time is getting close to going home with his mommy and daddy where he belongs and esp. after days like "Super Sunday" The pics are awesome and he doesn't even look sick at all! My fav. is the first and last pic! You look amazing as always and it is so good to hear the joy in your voice! I have been gone for several days and could not wait to get home and read the latest since last Thurs. night. I was praying for some good news and when I opened up the blog, the title on "The Perfect Day" was so uplifting that I ran in the den to share this with my husband just like it was me going through this! Well, in all honesty, we all are! Jonah has become our baby too! I have never felt the connection with a baby I have never met, but it's because of you, Patrice and how you are sharing him with us every step of the way! I agree with several more readers, its like a book I am reading and I just can't put it down! Praying for more "perfect days" with Jonah.
Oh, how he is progressing and I know you and Matt probably had the best night of sleep since he was born!

And all the world read Jonah's fairy tale, and they rejoiced because they knew that it wasn't just a story, but a beautiful tale of something completely true and beyond understanding. They cried when they read it, and rejoiced, and cheered for him and his sweet family, whether they knew them in person or only as brothers and sisters in Christ. And they continue to pray that he will indeed live happily ever after!

I read your post with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face. How awesome it is to see the power of prayers and the loving intercession of our God. May Jonah continue to have pain free days and nights; many MANY more snuggles with his family; a full tummy; and a (soon) homecoming. Our prayer group included all of you in our rosary last night and will continue to lift you up to the Lord.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! What a wonderful day that the Lord made. Not surprisingly, this mini-miracle occurred on the day that we celebrate Him and ask Him for His forgiveness and blessings. This story brought much needed tears of joy to those of us all over the world that have been lifting up Jonah for a while. As always thank you for sharing and we will ask Him for many more days like this to come. God bless! Dawn M.

I'm a friend of a friend, and I've been following your journey daily. I've had several NICU babies, one who is still with me, and two who are not. I've cried at your story, and in turn all over again at my own, but just reading this post makes every bad experience fade away, and I'm left with nothing but joy for how far Jonah has come! You're all three very strong, and I have no doubt you have been as big a blessing to your two boys as they have been to you.

What a perfectly beautiful post - it brought more tears to my eyes than anything else, but joyful ones at that. Found your blog through KellysKorner (and found her through someone else & so on & so forth) and have been reading and praying for all of you. Jonah is never far from my thoughts & prayers. I pray more days like today are in his near future and that God heals him from this awful disease and mends your hearts as he mends Jonah's body. Blessings to you & many prayers from Connecticut.

"How sweet to hold a newborn baby
And feel the pride and joy He gives
But greater still the calm assurance
This child can face uncertain days because He lives."

That was one of the versus of one of the hymns we sang yesterday at church, and you guys were heavily on my mind. I stessed last night and was so worried, when I had to go to bed without a post. I must have checked the site at least a dozen times yesterday. Then first thing this morning, when I got to work, I went straight to my computer (never mind the fact that 26 high school students were pouring into my room). I could hardly contain myself when I read your post! I haven't posted before, but I have been reading daily (usually multiple times a day). I am local - I teach math at West Stokes High School, in King. I pray for you often, and I recruit other prayer warriors often. I am just ecstatic that you guys had a good day! I can't wait to see what the future holds for you guys! I just know that God has big plans for Jonah! You guys deserve a happy ending, and the world is praying for one. Never stop blogging - I can't handle not knowing how Jonah is doing. Here's to a wonderful day and praying for many more to come!

I was so worried when you hadn't posted late last night - later than you ever had before (I checked). I have cried tears of sorrow for you every day and now there are tears of joy. A little boy has helped draw me closer to God. Thank you Lord for giving Jonah to a mommy who could so eloquently share his story with us! Why are we surprised when we are reminded again and again that He really knows what He's doing?!

As I sat here reading this post, tears rolling down my face in pure joy, I questioned how a small little person and his parents whom I have never met, have found their way to my daily thoughts and prayers, not to mention my heart. I know the answer, and it is God.

For whatever reason, God has placed all of us together. To pray, to cry and to rejoice over the daily victories of little Jonah!!

I am a better mother, a better wife, a better friend, a better Child of God, because of Jonah and because of your strength, your love for God, your love for each other!

So, thank you Jonah, Patrice and Matt...thank you for the gifts you have given me!

And THANK YOU Lord for Jonah's "Perfect Day"...and on Sunday no less!! May he have MANY, many more!!
