better today

Today was better.

Jonah only had one big throw up this afternoon, but I'm pretty sure it was my fault. I was giving him yogurt, 1/4 of a banana, and two ounces of formula. It was very liquidy, and I think I might have pushed it too fast. And he may or may not be able to tolerate bananas. That's yet to be determined. I know he can't handle banana pudding, but I thought it was the sweet flavor. Maybe not. So it was either the bananas, the formula, how liquidy it was and/or me pushing it too fast. It was a fluke. I'm sure it was a fluke. It had to be a fluke, right?

I ordered my Vitamix 5200 today. I have read The Simmons Family Blog, and she highly recommends this blender. It will pretty much blend anything to liquid. Right now I can do veggies and fruits that aren't seedy in my Magic Bullet, but I have to use baby food meats. I can't do rice because it's too thick and pasty. And I haven't tried beans, but I think I would have a similar problem with those. The Vitamix can do rice, beans, meats, and grains to liquid. AND I could just blend up whatever we're eating - casseroles, lasagna, steak - whatever, and give it to Jonah. I'm excited. It's expensive, but there's a medical discount of 25%, and I ordered a reconditioned one instead of a new one. It also comes with a seven year warranty. I'm committed to trying this for Jonah, and I just don't feel like I can give him the protein and grains he needs without a better blender. And I definitely can't risk having chunks and clogging his tube. So the Vitamix it is! I'm pumped.

Life's an adventure, I guess. It seems like we're always trying to figure something out.

Thanks for all the continued prayers and support. You've got to be exhausted.

And is it just me or is this episode of Glee even more weird than usual? That Lady Gaga is a strange bird.

Praying for you. I thought last night (as I was trying to sleep!) that it could have been the shots. Mine sometimes had upsets from them. Ho hum! Glad today was better. Glad you are finding her blog helpful. Glad you are getting the blender. WHEW! You are SO worth praying for and it continues to be an honor and a priveledge. You inspire me! It's mutual! Honestly, I'm having a bit of Vitamix envy over here. We've wanted one for years but haven't ever found a way to "justify" it yet. :)
Glad Jonah (and you!) had a better day today!

That Vitamix sounds a.ma.zing!! Maybe you can blend up some CFA!! :)

Anyway, I'm glad today was better and will continue to pray.

Agreed on the last sentence - it only took about 5 seconds of her performance on American Idol before I had to explain to the kids why I was changing the channel!

Love from TX!

Glad your day was better. The vitamix is great. It has been a big help in my son's unique diet needs . Heres a website that helps me with recipes not to mention some awareness that I should eat like this too!

I'm sure you'll love the Vitamix! My parents have one, and it is incredible! You really can puree anything to liquid without a problem, and it sounds like just what Jonah needs.

As a bonus, you and Matt can make yourselves some delicious and healthy smoothies!

That is so worth it!! I don't know much about it, but it sounds like the tool you need to make awesome food for Jonah. Now what will you make in it first?!

It is the best thing we have ever spent money on - in terms of a kitchen gadget that is! You can make GREAT soups, smoothies, sauces, anything! And, the best part is that cleaning it is WAY easy! I love your honesty and we pray for you guys daily! I only hope that I can be half the mother to my children that you are to Jonah and Gabe!

Hey Patrice! We're blending Ethan's diet as well, and have been looking into ordering a Vitamix. Where did you find information on reconditioned machines, ad well as the medical discount? I've looked all over the Vitamix website & can't find it!

When I was reading your last post I was wondering if you read the Simmons blog. It is amazing what she has done in the line of foods.

You can get a medical discount on the Vita-Mix bringing it down to around 250 or so. They are reconditioned but come with the same warranty as the new ones. We haven't been able to purchase ours yet but for the past 2 years have been using a combination of "The Ninja, Magic Bullet and the Black and Decker Food chopper" The Vita-Mix is by far the best little beast for blenderized food. To purchase your Vita-Mix and to receive the discounted price for Medical
reason's please contact Sandy Ventimiglia, at Vita-Mix via E-mail at:
SVentimiglia@Vitamix.com
You will need some type of medical documentation saying you or your loved one is going to use the Vita-Mix to prepare food to
be given via a feeding tube. The medical documentation can come from an MD,
RD, OT, PT, or SP.

Hi, I've happened on your blog a couple of times and have just fell in love with your family. Sweet baby Jonah is just darling and you guys are great parents! That being said, I know your expenses have to be high with bandages and such, is there anyplace that I can donate some money towards your Vitamix blender? I know you have auctions for the dEBra, but I would love to help you out in anyway that I can. It's a "pay it forward" type of thing.
I'm hoping you can see my email address below, but if you can't, please let me know (via comment) and I will send it to you directly

I know this is not baby related but wanted to pass it along since we live in the same general area (well maybe a hour away). a week after we moved here from AL our cat of 16 years died. a friend gave us a stray. when I took her to get fixed and de clawed we were told she was having kittens. we now have 4 week old kittens if you know anyone who is interested. They have already seen the vet and will again before I can give them away

I'm so excited for you to get your vitamix!!! You are going to LOVE it!! Owen did puke up the blends sometimes... I just had to find his groove. One day it was avacados, one day it was almond butter, but I figured out the right combos. Usually, if Owen pukes, it's more an issue of volume (too much, too fast).

I am so glad to hear that you are getting the Vitamix. I bought one at Costco last August and I've gotten my money's worth from it ten times over. With my daycare, I make all the children's food, including the babyfood, once the babies are about 10 months old. I can make EVERYTHING in it!

There is one TINY drawback - you have to make at least about 1 cup or it doesn't fill the blades. Just freeze or save the extra.

I also HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend a pressure cooker. I got the one from QVC and I have used my stove and oven only 4 times in the last two months. Everything on the demo video was true. If I could have only two appliances, it'd be the Vitamix and pressure cooker. Even over a microwave! These two things are the only things I've ever bought that did everything exactly as the demo showed.

You are going to be able to pack the calories into your little man with the Vitamix. I'll have to go back and read how your visit with the nutrition specialist went. I think I missed that post.

Think: egg yokes, flaxseed powder, rendered duck fat, potatoes, and all the other things that add protein and calories without a lot of bulk, all in the Vitamix with all the other good stuff.
