jonah - friday, march 27th

Jonah is one month old today. I can't believe it. It one way the time has flown, and in another way it's just felt like one big, long day.

His dressing change went well again tonight. But he had to get his first Hep B vaccination and he was circumcised (don't worry - we checked with Dr. Fine first) tonight, so he got pretty mad during all of that. In his agitation, he wiggled off both of his arm bandages, so we had to redo them - this time with him angry and agitated. Not fun.

I'm exhausted, but just wanted to say thank you for praying Jonah through this first month. I wasn't sure he'd ever make it to four weeks old. Now, I go to bed hopeful for a full, long life for Jonah - full of laughter and "normal" boy things. Should I be scared?

He is the smiliest, smirkiest baby I've ever seen. He'll get really tired and start rolling his eyes back in his head, and he'll just be smiling away (and once he even laughed out loud). I'm pretty sure he's hanging out with Gabe in his dreams, and they're conspiring against me. I think I'm in for it - and I can't wait.

Look y'all, no cast!

Happy Day, Happy Day! (as my 2 year old would say - he just can't quite say birthday yet). I wish you and Jonah sweet dreams of Gabe and of your future together! One month down...many years to come!

Dear Sweet Patrice:
I can't believe it...one month old! And he looks so good in his new pics! I am so encouraged to hear you speak of the future that Father has planned for Baby Jonah! I am amazed on a daily basis to see where God has brought you three from (through the valleys and up on the mountains as well)!
I am praying for all things to work out quickly and smoothly for the coming news of when you will get to settle in at home!
God's hope is secure and HE DOESN'T DISAPPOINT!
Love and hugs! Aimee Pence

Patrice and Matt,
I'm so amazed of how wonderful Jonah is. He's such a fighter and I have a feeling he will continue to be throughout life.

Happy 1 Month Birthday Jonah... may your dreams come true, as your parents' dream have when you came into their life.

What a rough day for the little tike. Through every circumcision of my sons, I always felt so guilty for intentionally putting them through that pain, but as my mom told me... they won't even remember it. I hope so!

Rest well mommy and daddy... the count down BEGINS, only a few more days till Jonah can sleep in his home - where he belongs.

Many, many continued prayers for you all and lots of hugs and kisses to Jonah.

Circumcision is a private and personal and yes sonetimes religious decision and I think it each parent makes what THEY feel is the right one for their son. It is a shame that you remain "ANONYMOUS" and do not reveal your name...after all this family has been through...this is the least of their worries and you should not make them feel any worse..
shame on you..

EdwinsonFamily said...

delete that comment above and don't think anymore about it. your reasons for circ are not our business, esp. an 'anonomous' coward.

you are WONDERFUL parents whom God handpicked just for Jonah!

get some rest. we'll keep praying for your precious boy, and you.

I am glad you got him circumcised. You'd be facing possible major problems down the line if you didn't.

Just 3 more days.... :-)

Happy 1 month Birthday, sweet Jonah!!!! We are all so proud of you for being strong and fighting your way through everything. Patrice & Matt...we're all so very proud of you two, too...this has been just as much of a struggle for the two of you as it has been for Jonah, even if in a different way (emotional vs. physical). Congratulations on reaching such a big milestone with your son, and don't worry - we'll all keep praying for many many many more to come....

Okay, caught on to the issue with some anonymous person after I posted. I didn't get to read the post, so I don't know what was said, but guys...don't let someone saying something against you bother you. You are always going to find someone who disagrees with you, no matter what the issue....there always has to be one (don't know why, it just holds true). Unfortunately some people have no manners or just feel that they have to bring their disagreement to light. Just ignore them and know that you guys are smart and you have an intelligent team of doctors and nurses who stand behind you. You do what you feel is right for your son....and don't listen to nay-sayers....

I have a feeling Jonah will be having many more birthdays than most little ones! I would have to celebrate each month, day, hour and min as a "birth" day for this little miracle!
I know you have a big celebration planned for this long anticipated day, Monday, March 30, 2009! It is definitely worthy of one!
After reading about other little miracles, Stellan, Kayleigh, just to name a few, Baby Jonah is blessed and we give all of the glory to our Father for his homecoming just a few days after one month of his birth! God is so Good!
The pics keep getting better and better! He has got some "chubby" cheeks and I just want to kiss them!
Later on down the road, I would like to come see you and meet "our Jonah" who has made me a more praying and spiritual person! Our God works in mysterious ways and HE has surely worked on me through THE WILLIAMS FAMILY!

Love and prayers forever
Nancy:)

I would imagine that the decision to circumcise here made the most medical sense. Jonah has a skin condition where any sort of friction, between skin to skin or material to skin, causes blisters. I'll let you dwell on that one.

If Sara, one of our most helpful EB moms, says that it could have caused potential problems down the road, then I would think the doctors would have similar reasons and would not have put Jonah through that if it was recommended. Though I understand that there are many families that are anti-circumcision--and certainly, everyone has a right to their opinion--I don't believe that Jonah's case really fits into the typical situation. I pray that more people think logically about this case rather than commenting based on their gut reactions. And that we not focus on the negative tone of the commenter, but continue to lift up all of the positive, amazing things that Jonah, through the awesome power of our God, has been able to accomplish in the last month!

Wow, a month of continual praying has done Jonah a lot of good and me. Jonah has brought me closer to God and I thank him for that. You have one super precious cute little boy there. I continue to pray for healing for this little cherub.

Glad you're close to going home. My kindergarteners are praying for him daily-- sight unseen. (We don't have internet in our class.) He is absolutely beautiful! I just realized he is only 11 days younger than my newest grandson.

Happy Birthday Jonah! You have accomplished more for the Lord in 1 month than most people to in their whole lives!
We are so HAPPY you are here!

My husband also broke his arm about 3 months ago when he fell through our attic. He is a dentist so that has been interesting since it was his right arm. It still hasn't healed and we are 14 weeks out. Sheesh. Broken arms are a pain. I am so glad your husband's cast is off and he can snuggle his little boy (can't wait until they are playing ball together)!!!!!

Monday is almost here! What a homecoming celebration that will be!!!!!

hugs and hugs and more hugs from TN.

Please don't be sad about "anonymous". There is always the strange "anonymous" person who leaves crazy comments. I have an "anonymous" stalker on my blog. It used to hurt my feelings but I now realize that as God uses our blogs for his glory... someone does not like that and almost always attacks.

You are beautiful and an amazing mother. All 3 of my boys have had this surgery and it is far from outdated! It was given to us as a protection from infection. You continue to make the BEST decisions for Jonah!! What a gift he has been given to have you as mom.

Please disregard crazy comments and know that eternity continues to be rocked by your family!!
Go BABY GO!!! Into all the world, sweet one, sharing the Gospel!!!
You are LOVED!

Patrice- You are incredible.
Keep your eyes on Christ. Not crazy cowards.

Jonah looks so adorable in all his pictures! Speaking from experience, raising boys and dealing with "normal" boy things is FUN! Get ready to "speak cars, trucks, trains, and SPORTS." Sure, boys are usually loud, with lots of energy, but a son shares a special bond with his mom. Have fun spoiling sweet Jonah!

HAPPY 1 MONTH BIRTHDAY JONAH!!!!!!!
Proud he's going home. Proud he will be sleeping by his mom and dad's bed in that bassinet that's waiting for him. Proud that you have wonderful family and friends who will be by your side and never let you down, never! Proud that i work with Matt and get to see him light up when he talks of his son. He's so beautiful, we just love him and we pray for him everyday! Not Anonymous but Robin Shoemaker, my fiance', my future step-daughter, my daughter and my twins!!!!

Less loose skin = less skin rubbing together to cause this poor little guy pain... seems logical to me. Moms constantly have to make painful decisions in the best interest of their little ones. And there will always be those who criticize. You know you're doing the best for sweet Jonah. That's what matters.

don't worr about people who leave nasty comments. the best rememdy is to delete them and not think about it. some people just can't leave things alone and they think that any forum or message board or comment page is an oen invite to an internet free for all. what i did when i had those type messages, was read them and get a good laugh * they were usually full of grammatcial errors and bad speeling* or delete them and replace it with something cute and funny. just remember that no matter what they say on here, they can't stop the power of all of us out here praying for your little boy. Hoping and praying Jonah gets to come home on Monday
